WAAF hosts "WAAF Brown Beer Summit" to Benefit Homes For Our Troops
Boston (February 2, 2010) – Keeping to a campaign promise he made to WAAF listeners back in September, Senator-Elect Scott Brown sat down for a beer with a group of lucky people on Tuesday night at the “WAAF Brown Beer Summit.” Raffle tickets were sold for $10 each to benefit Homes for Our Troops and five winners were randomly selected. The winners and their guests joined Brown and WAAF’s Greg Hill over drinks and political chit chat at the Stadium Bar in South Boston.Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit organization that provides new homes for severely injured servicemen and servicewomen. More than $6,000 was raised for the organization through the raffle.
Brown first agreed to the “beer summit” during an interview on The Hill-Man Morning Show in September of 2009. In his post-race interview on WAAF last week, he confirmed his participation and expressed an interest in finding a charitable partner to benefit from the event. “There are no losers in this raffle because everyone involved has helped to take care of those who sacrificed much to keep us safe at home," said Brown. "I am honored to help out in this great cause."
“I think we are all well aware of how rare it is for a politician to keep a promise, but Scott is doing just that!” said Hill. “I think if they all followed his lead and bought a few Budweisers for the voters, things would be a lot different in this country.”
“Homes for Our Troops is honored to have the support of WAAF and Senator Scott Brown,” said Home for Our Troops President and Founder John Gonsalves. “We all share our love of country, pride in our military protectors and have made a strong commitment to support them when they return home from war severely injured and in need. The special homes we build remove barriers and provide our injured heroes the same level of freedom and independence that we all enjoy in our own homes. Our troops deserve nothing less and with friends like WAAF and Senator Brown, Homes for Our Troops mission will continue as long as there is a need.”
The Hill-Man Morning Show airs from 5:30 AM – 10 AM each weekday on WAAF 97.7/107.3 FM. For more information on WAAF and Homes for Our Troops, visit www.waaf.com and www.homesforourtroops.org.
