FEATURED STATION – WZPL – Z99.5 Indianapolis

Indianapolis welcomed “Indy’s Apple” to the radio at 99.5-FM on March 1, 1983. While its name has changed over the years, WZPL has remained the market’s longest continuous destination for engaging personalities and today’s best music with adult listeners who lead a young, active lifestyle. Z-99.5 joined the Entercom family in 2004 and continues a proud tradition community involvement, raising more than $2.3 million for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in recent years. Between the hit songs, Z-99.5 is like a radio version of your favorite entertainment magazine: The day begins with “The Smiley Morning Show,” now in its ninth year. Smiley gathers a bunch of friends every morning to have fun talking about real life. Dave Decker has been the at-work host for more than 12 years. Ryan Seacrest brings a taste of Hollywood to Hoosiers every afternoon, followed by unique relationship-based conversation of Kim Iverson at night. On the digital front, WZPL pioneered loyalty marketing with its Freeloaderz program and is on the cutting-edge of social networking, video, and blogging.

Charity Leadership and One-Of-A-Kind Events

In January, the island nation of Haiti was devastated by the strongest earthquake to strike the region. WZPL listeners responded by donating more than $22,000 to support the relief efforts of Indy-based Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. WZPL partnered in this campaign with Indianapolis Colts WR #85 Pierre Garcon, whose family still lives in Haiti.

WZPL is home to the annual Request-a-thon to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Indiana. In 2009, the 36-hour event hosted by “The Smiley Morning Show,” raised more than $360,000 to bring hope to area children who face a life-threatening illness. During the past 13 years of the event, a total of more than $2.3 million has been generated and more than 400 wishes have been granted.

WZPL also knows how to make the show bigger, too. Uncle Sam Jam and Jingle Jam have become two of the city’s signature concert events. Uncle Sam Jam, held on The Lawn at White River State Park during the summer, last year presented Jason Mraz and Gavin DeGraw to a sold-out crowd of 7,000! This past December brought All American Rejects, Barenaked Ladies, & Five For Fighting to the Murat Theatre for a capacity 2,400 audience.
